Kurdish coffee

Kurdish coffee also known as ( Qehweya Kurdi or Qehveya Kezwanan in Kurdish) is made of ground roasted terebinth fruit (related to the pistachio) as the main ingredients and is caffeine free. It is popular in southeastern Anatolia.

Terebinth fruit

The Terebinth, also called the turpentine tree, is a deciduous tree species of the genus pistacia, native to the mediterranean region. At one time terebinths growing on the eastern shores of the mediterranean sea.
The terebinth fruit considered as the main ingredient of the Kurdish coffee.
Many times age this hot beverage was served in Diyarbakir, Adiyaman (Kurdish: semsur),mardin and Batman (Kurdish: Elih).
The roasted berries have been exported to europe and around the world since the early 20th century. In France, it was marketed as chicorée au kurde, Kurdish chicory or coffee substitute.
