Prison authorities in Urmiyah, Iranian Kurdistan, on Sunday cut off fingers of two Kurdish prisoners as punishment.

According to human rights monitoring group Hangaw, the punishment was carried out in Darya prison of Urmiyah with 24 other prisoners forced to watch the process.

The two Kurdish prisoners, Faramarz Bigham and Majid Bigham are brothers whom were charged with thievery by Iranian judicial authorities earlier in 2011.

However, they were held in prison since 2011, and the sentence of cutting their fingers was carried out after they spent nearly five years behind the bars.
