Hashid al-Shaabi said on Friday (January 27) it would investigate “mistaken” bombardments on Peshmerga forces in Sinjar.
Peshmerga commander Hashim Sitayee told on Friday that Hashid al-Shaabi fighters shelled frontline Peshmerga positions several times in Sinjar.
Sitayee added that Peshmerga commanders informed Hashid al-Shaabi leaders but they continued to shell the Peshmerga frontlines in the district.
“We have warned Hashid al-Shaabi that we would have [a] bitter response if shelling Peshmerga frontlines [was] repeated,” Military Supervisor of Peshmerga frontlines in Sinjar, Sarbast Lazgeen, told Anadolu Agency on Thursday.
“We have informed Hashid al-Shaabi leaders peacefully many times but Hashid al-Shaabi still continues violations.”
A Peshmerga was wounded due to the Hashid al-Shaabi shelling in Sinjar, according to the Peshmerga official without giving a specific date as to when the incident took place.
“It is not in the interest of Hashid al-Shaabi to create problems with the Peshmerga,” Lazgeen added.
Hashid al-Shaabi Spokesman, Ahmed Asadi, said the group has formed a committee to investigate the “mistaken” bombardments on the Peshmerga frontlines to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
“Peshmerga are part of Iraqi military forces. They are our brother and ally in the fight against Islamic State,” Asadi added. “A committee between Peshmerga and Hashid al-Shaabi has been created. Our weapons will be on the ISIS chest in the future.”
