Turkish Police Detain HDP Co-Leaders Selahattin Demirtas, Figen Yuksekdag and 9 MPs

Police have detained Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag and 9 other MPs. The number of detained MPs is set to rise.

According to reports arrest warrants have been issued for the arrest of all 59 Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs by the Diyarbakir Chief Prosecutor’s Office.

Those detained include HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag.

The other detained MPs are Sirri Sureyya Onder, Ziya Pir, Ferhat Encü, Leyla Birlik, Selma Irmak, Nursel Aydoğan, Gulser Yildirim, Idris Baluken, Abdullah Zeydan.

Police have raided the homes of MPs and the HDP Headquarters in Ankara.

The HDP received more than 5 million votes in the 1 Nov 2015 general election.
